The Carmelite Charism Part 1
Fr. Daniel Mary, the Prior of the Carmelite Monks in Wyoming, explains the Carmelite charism as lived by the Wyoming Carmelites. The tradition of the Carmelite Order is that the Blessed Virgin Mary is the foundress of the order of Carmel. That is why Carmel is called totally Marian. This is a video on the Carmelite Charism: Part 1.
Fr. Danial Mary has been a Carmelite since 1991. He has brought together his many retreats given to Carmelites in order to share the devotion that Carmelite has to Mary.
Why do Carmelites honor Mary?
The Carmelite Charism is to imitate the contemplative life of Mary who by the singular privilege of the Immaculate Conception became the Mother of God. It is because of Jesus as the Son of God that Mary received many privileges. The order of Carmel has always belonged to Mary in order to show her the imitation and honor she deserves as God’s Mother. Mary is a human person while Christ is a divine Person. But because of the hypostatic union, Jesus’s humanity and divinity cannot be separated. Mary thus received many special graces to be the Mother of God.
